What are you having for dinner today?

What do you think about modern black pudding, Keith?

I find good stuff almost impossible to obtain - it nearly all seems to be made with a so-called 'modern twist' like being loaded up with onions and/or sugar and no fat or cereal. What's happened to real black puddings with visible cubes of fat and grains of barley?

The only place I seem able to get the real stuff is Bury Black Pudding from Waitrose.

When Er indoors was in hospital a specialist advised eating black pudding as it was so nutritious. He advised against getting it with large lumps of fat and said to get the stuff with fine grains of fat.  We found that Morrisons stocked the old stuff except that it had an artificial skin. They also stock prepacked stuff in packs of four slices or six. The stuff in the four packs tastes fine but breaks up easily when turning it over in the frying pan. The stuff in the six packs suits us fine. It is easier  to turn over and to our taste is delicious. Just enough spice to get it a little kick. Try it.

Unfortunately no local Morrisons. I'll get someone drop down to Waitrose to buy some Bury black pudding.

Today is black pudding, fried onions, mash and mushy peas

Let me know what it is like, and I will try it, we pop into Waitrose now and than, but generally find that although the food is good it can be pricey.

I often buy Bury black pudding from Waitrose - it's the nearest thing I can get to the locally made ones which used to be available in my childhood in Nottinghamshire.

Make sure you get them from the deli counter - the prepacked ones (large diameter, presliced) are not nearly as good.
