GaryRW Posted May 9, 2004 Report Share Posted May 9, 2004 I have a few of these SiliconTech IDE FlashDrives and the only problem I have is that they are only recognized as Removeable Disk/Drive by Win2K. This prevents configuration as spanned dynamic disk volumes and, most recently, installing Grisoft AVG because it won't allow installing on removeable media. There's probably other software with the same restriction.I have talked to Simple/SiliconTech and they say that since these drives are from the industrial component side that often builds to specs that perhaps they don't conform to 100% ATA spec. While I understand this, my understanding is that these are not proprietary but off-the-shelf components that simply are marketed thru the industrial/commercial/OEM side of the business as standardized components.I think this issue can be solved in a couple of ways. A device driver that would force the OS to recognize them as fixed drives, registry override, or simply added to some internal Windows list.
