Access 2003 Databases

Hi all,

Anyone any good at making Access 2003 databases, or know of a good site I can find help?

Some criteria I am looking for:

Firstly, a drop down box with a choice of selections, but does not allow the initial "please select" as an option.

Secondly, I will have a list of unique licence keys that can only be used one at a time. This list will need to be imported from excel, and will need to be updated every so often so the licence keys are always available.

The licence keys themselves will either need to be input automatically when a new record (client) is created, or be available from a drop down box. In both circumstances, the licence key cannot be used more than once, so some safety measure will need to be in place where you cannot select that key again. If a record (client) is deleted, that licence key will then become available again.

Thirdly, I will need to run queries on the data, .i.e. customer name, licence number, customer number etc etc.

Finally, I will need Access to generate a customer ID, but not just "1", "2", etc, something like A00223.

I don’t think I am asking too much B)

Firstly unless you state otherwise Access 2003 will create its database in Acess 2000 format (as will Access XP) - and it is best to leave it like this so you can always open it!!

First point - you should be able to set a default option on the drop down so it isn't the 'please select' but you may need to create a 'null' entry in the list and set it to that if you want it as nothing.

Think you will need to use update queries on the second point but don't quite understand (or can't get my head around!) what it is you are trying to do. Some more detail on the way the licence key is going to be used would help.

Queries are simple. You can either do them using Access' GUI or SQL.

You can change the format of the Autonumber data type to be what you want it to be - I assume you want it to be A00001 - A99999?

Ask away with the questions. On the general Access stuff my brain can cope fairly well. Sorry don't know any good websites as such but google is always a good starting point!
