problem connectin 98SE computer to XP computer

alright were havin a little problem first let me tell you about the two computers:

Computer A: Windows XP Home Edition

Has the Cable modem connected to it

Has the router connected to it

512mb ram

Computer B: Windows 98SE

Being Wirelessly connected to the xp computer

Ok well i know i have my network set up because a) i went through the XP computer, and The 98SE computer is getting an internet connection and finally C) because the XP can connect to the 98SE but not visa versa

Now every time im on the 98SE computer and i try to connect to the XP comp i get this "Resource: \\MAIN\IPC$" Then its askin for a password, ive tried every single password ive known it wotn connect, i have even made an account exactly the same as the 98SE computer on the XP computer. IE (this is true) The windows 98SE computer has a username of Default and password - nothing. So i went to the XP connection, i made an account named Default and in the password field put nothing. I dont know what else to do ive tried everything plz help soon!!!

Please make sure both computers are in the same workgroup.

On the 98 machine, right click Network Neighborhood and select Properties. Click on the Identification tab and note the Workgroup name.

On the XP Machine, right click My Computer and select Properties. Then select the Computer Name tab. The Workgroup should be listed there. Make sure they match. If they do not, change one of them to match the first.

Also, make sure you have a resource such as a Printer or Folder shared on the XP machine and that the user you're trying to connect as has rights to that folder.

It sounds like a sharing/rights issue on the XP machine. This is probably XP Home edition?

Are you able to see the XP machine when you open Network Neighborhood on the 98 machine?

I don't think it's the problem, but does the XP Machine have Service Pack 2 installed? If so, is the XP Firewall enabled?

Also, are you running any other Firewall software on either PC?

Has the 98 machine ever been able to browse to the XP machine? If it used to be able to, and now can't, what do you think has changed?

I've read of an issue with XP Service Pack 2 causing similar errors. If you let me know here that it worked before SP2, but doesn't now, I'll track down that Microsoft Knowledge Base article for you.
