Direct X sound driver

Try updating your sound card drivers, if not done already, you just might have the drivers which aren't compatible with the Direct X version the application is requiring or you have installed on your computer, playing music ect doesnt require a updated version of direct x like other programs so this will work fine, you can download the sound card divers at

http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/down...Name=Windows+XP

What direct x version does 'Counter Strike' and the 'Virtual Dj' require?, check by reading usually the reverse side of the game case, make sure you have this version by running dxdiag in 'run' and looking for that version, see thumbnail attachment if help is needed, if you don't have the direct x version required by the applications you are experiencing problems with, download the new Direct X version at;

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en

Before doing so you might also have to download your latest graphics card driver to support the new direct x, by going on the manafacturers website, e.g

www.nvidia.co.uk,

www.ati.co.uk

www.creative.com

Only download the new Direct x, if you need to, and read the microsoft instructions and information carefully before downloading as installing the new Direct X cannot be reversed, if your hardware doesn't have the correct drivers to support it, (this is maybe what is happening at the moment, so try updting sound card drivers first), there maybe defects.

I would try first installing new sound card drivers, if this is not successful try updating Direct x as described above,

I hope this has helped you

Ben

I didn't release at the time that the drivers I gave you weren't usable unless you had a prevous version,

One of the file versions listed above

Note

If your driver version is not mentioned above, you need not download this web release.

To check your file version:

Click Start -> Settings -> Control Panel.

Double-click the System icon.

Click the Hardware tab and then click the Device Manager button (For Windows Me or Windows 98 SE, click the Device Manager tab).

Double-click the Sound, Video and Game controllers icon.

Right-click the audio driver icon.

Click Properties.

Click the Driver tab.

Click the Driver Details or Driver File Details button.

Select c:\windows\system32\drivers\ctaud2k.sys.

The file version is displayed as 5.12.xx.xxxx or 5.12.xx.xxxx-1.42.yyyy (replace xx.xxxx with the last 6 digits from the version number list).'

You need to have that driver version already on your computer to update, I will look for the driver version and get back to you ok?

Try This driver and then download the latest driver version using the first driver link I gave you (the one which showed the error);

http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/SOUND-CAR...1291-WHQL.shtml

As I said before with you having the latest Direct X version your sound card might support it, this is usually resolved by installing new drivers, you have a decent sound card one which I was browsing at some time ago for when I was building a computer for a friend, and one which should be compatible with the Direct x version you are running (Is this 9.0c?) when new drivers are instaled.

Hope This Helps

Looking at the screenshot you sent me,

It appears that your sound card is installed, and there are no conflicts, click on your sound card whilst in device manager and try rolling the drivers back, to the original drivers you installed, do you have the original driver software which should have been supllied with your card, if so try this to install the drivers, then update them.

Sorry I can't help anymore,

Just found this while looking into it abit more.....mine seems to not be coming back :(

LOSING SOUND DURING GAME PLAY

Because DirectX installs a new set of extensions for the sound drivers it is possible to lose sound which can either come back after restarting the computer, restarting the game, or never come back. It is recommended that you first ensure that you sound card manufacturer does not have a proprietary set of DirectX drivers that may be required to be used for the sound card to properly work. If the manufacturer does not have a proprietary set of drivers it is recommended that you download the latest version of DirectX

Ok,

So you have the latest Direct X, I can only once again recommend installing the new drivers,

If you wish, there is a function where you found 'roll back driver' (By right clicking the hardware in device manager and selecting properties) to uninstall your soundcard, if you wish to do this you could uninstall the soundcard, but because it is still plugged inside the computer windows will recognise it, this is the point where you would insert your disc with the original drivers (If you still have it) and install them, then after you could update them from the creative website.

'Before you say to install the latest drivers... I cant. I go to SoundBlaster's site and download the drivers that match my card (SB Audigy 2), and then when I go to install them it tells me that I either do not have a SB Audigy 2 or that it is not plugged in correctly (which it is last I checked).

I am at wits end about what to do. I need some help if anybody has some!

Thanks.'

It looks like the problem when updating the sound card drivers occurs not just for your soundcard.
