Windows Security Centre

Recommended Posts

Hi

The last month or so my XP SP2 machine's security centre has been playing up. I have Sygate Personal Firewall installed and Sophos Anti-virus. The security centre has been displaying that my virus protection is out of date. It's not. This has only been happening for the last month.

Also, it sometimes says that Windows firewall is on, when it's not. There's definately a problem with the security centre, as in my event viewer (application section) within computer management the following error has been coming up for about the same time:

The Windows Security Center was unable to establish event queries with WMI to monitor service start/stop.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

The link goes to a page stating no more info.

My XP installation came with SP2. Can I repair the security centre. What's causing this? How can i fix it?

This is now getting very annoying. If anyone can shed any light on this I'll be most grateful.

Thanks in advance

I get the same messages now and again......checking Task Manager confirms they are running OK.

I think it's a Windows glitch, nothing else. Perhaps the Security Centre loads before the Virus scanner when you boot up and gives a false report......just a guess though.
