Windows XP install

I'm running an english version of Windows XP SP1 in a Pentium IV 3.0. I would like to install a portuguese version of Windows XP SP2 in this machine.

Can I install directly over the Win XP SP1 or is it recommended to do a clean install, i.e., format the drive and install everything from start?

And another question:

I have a second HD that was my boot disk in the past and today I only use it for backup purposes. But I didn't uninstall Windows from it. The windows folder is already there. Is this a problem?

I've tried to erase it but I didn't suceeded.

Hello sergiobn and welcome to the forum. :)

Yes, you can install over the top of your current O/S [Operating system] but as always, make a back-up copy of all your important work first just in case. Copy or burn to a disk all your data files and any drivers that you may need for your hardware.

Clean install is the best option, gives you a fresh start with a nice clean drive. If you wish to, try the install over the top first and if it does not work to your satisfaction then format and start fresh.

Once you've sorted your main drive then format the second drive, removing the windows folder and use that as a back-up to your main drive. If you need any help with formatting the second drive, please post back to this thread and one of our members will talk you through it, but I think you will find all you need at the link above.
