When using Outlook from the outside location I cannot view the emails already stored on the server. Can anyone help me out. The server is running Win 2000. THe only emails that I can see are new ones that I have not already checked, other than that I cannot see older ones that I can see from a pc on the LAN. homecomputeraid Posted August 28, 2005 Report Share Posted August 28, 2005 Can you ping the Exchange server by name through the VPN Tunnel? In other words, when the tunnel is up (VPN connection is made), can you go to a command prompt and type ping Exchange (or whatever your server name is) and get a name to IP address resolution, then get replies?If you can't do name resolution, I'd look at what DNS Servers are being provided to VPN clients, and make sure tunneled traffic can get to those servers. Vasichko Posted September 8, 2005 Author Report Share Posted September 8, 2005 Yes, I can ping the exchange server by its name. Everything appears to be running fine with the Exchange Server. The server itself is running 2000 SB and the workstations XP Pro.Basically I just am wanting to see all the emails stored at the main office from our branch office. homecomputeraid Posted September 8, 2005 Report Share Posted September 8, 2005 I'm not sure whether this will help Vasichko, but I've found strange behavior when there is a software firewall on XP machines (the XP firewall specifically) while you're trying to use Outlook. Can you check to see whether the firewall's on, and turn it off if it is. If it's already off, post and we'll try some other stuff. Can you synchronize the computers through the VPN connection? Most organizations have users keep their e-mail on the server, but it is possible to set it up to download and be stored locally.I must ask for clarification again, does the PC that's having problems getting older mail ever connect via a LAN connection?
