shared memory to unshared memory

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm using my father's computer for maintenence. The memory for my father's computer is 256MB. It is now 192MB because of the onboard video (64MB) that is shared with memory. I uninstalled the onboard video, VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP (64MB). I installed the ATI RADEON 7500 64MB PCI video card into his machine. On the bios, I've changed it from AGP/onboard to PCI. I disabled the onboard video on safe mode and installed the ATI video drivers. Suddenly, after disabling the onboard video and installing the PCI video card, the shared memory, 192MB, still exist. How can I make the memory return to 256MB instead of the shared memory.

1) You need to reinstall the VIA video drivers; the reason is that, if Windows ever gets confused, you will be totally scr_wed. The ATI won't work, nor will the onboard.

2) Right click on the VIA display adapter in the device manager and choose Disable. Then Windows will know it is ther; but, won't use it.

3) Set the BIOS to auto; whatever it lets you have is what you're pretty much stuck with. If there is any utility to change it, it will be found at http://viaarena.com
