kismetk
HelloI have just installed an update to Windows Update, and now just after logging in I am getting an error message saying "WebscanX has encountered a problem etc etc" . Help to resolve this would be much appreciated.
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Are you using any McAfee product(s)? If so, what version(s)? A Google search on your error message reveals that this problem often occurs with older versions of McAfee products on Windows XP.
kismetk
Yes, I have Mcafee VirusScan v4.5.1.SP1. Would installing a newer version help? Thanks.
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
If you have a newer version (e.g. v7 or v8) available, it would be worth to try. I run with v8 and do not experience any problems.Just did a KB search on the McAfee support site and found the problem confirmed for 4.5.1 SP1 (kb40726).Solution 1:Disable the WebscanX components (Download scan and Internet Filter). These components are made redundant by the "System Scan" component, or the On-Access Scanner. The feature of IP/URL blocking has been removed from future versions.Solution 2:Where possible, upgrade to the latest version of VirusScan. For Windows NT SP6, Windows 2000 family, Windows XP, and Windows 2003 family, the latest version is VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i. kismetk
I've disabled those components and this has resolved the problem, pending getting a newer version. As usual, thank you VERY much for your help.
