The normal procedure is to boot onto your Windows CD-ROM, then run setup from there.But I have to admit that I've never reinstalled XP over an existing installation, so I can't say much more on that subject. Boot your PC at the same time tapping away on the "Del." key to enter your BIOS. from there set your CD drive as the first boot drive, save and exit, Insert your XP disk and turn off your machine, reboot and from the options choose install.During the install procedure it will find that a copy of XP is already on your drive and ask if you want to format and install fresh, say yes. Your hard drive will then start to format, just follow the on-screen instructions from there, it will be exactly the same as installing to a clean drive for the first time. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb Posted November 14, 2005 Report Share Posted November 14, 2005 Don't worry - you are not annoying anyone :) If you already know if you can boot from a CD-ROM, then you don't need to do the BIOS thing. You can just try it.If your system does not boot from a CD-ROM, then you need to change the boot sequence in your BIOS settings. The previous post mentioned the Del button, but on some computers it's the F2 button to invoke BIOS settings.It doesn't matter if the CD-ROM is inside or not when you do it.Do not hesitate to ask more questions if you need. If this is the case, then you need to boot with floppy disks. Do you have a floppy disk drive?
