Logon Unsuccessful

We are a small buisness running and XP environment with two servers runing Windows 2003 and active dirctory. We have a new laptop with a docking station from HP that replaced an older desktop computer and now have connection problems. Before I arived on board, an outside IT individual tried to fix the problem with a bandaide. He created a bandaide by adding a new user loggon with the same abilities. The original account can access the internet and recieve pop email, however can not access files on the server. It opens a dialog box and a request for a user name. When I attempted to use my Windows logon name the following error appeared: "Logon unsuccessful: The user name you typed is the same as the user name you logged in with. That user name has already bee tried. A domain controller cannot be found to verify that user name."

The second account works, however every time she loggs off, her account is disabled. So, we have to re-enable it then she has access again. Very frustrating to fix others mistakes....

Any help would be greatly apreciated.
