Anjanesh Posted March 13, 2006 Report Share Posted March 13, 2006 HiI was using a friend's laptop which has Windows XP Pro SP2.The problem is, the mouse cursor moves to the left (or left-diagonal I think) automatically, if theres no activity on the laptop for sometime say a few secs or a minute.My screensaver is set to blank and set to 10 mins - so it cant be because of some screensaver bug.Any idea whats going on ?Thanks Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

In my case it was caused by the vibration from the desktop computer that was right beside the mouse.Now I just noticed that you are talking about a laptop, so there may be a different problem. Still, is there any vibration on the desk from where the mouse operates?Another question: does the movement continue when you lift the mouse? (Drifting Mouse Syndrome) It usually occurs in older mice (esp. roller balls) and seems to simply occur as a result of age, or maybe mis-calibration. Anjanesh Posted March 16, 2006 Author Report Share Posted March 16, 2006 Im on a Compaq Presario V22381TU (V2000 Series) and have an external Microsoft optical mouse.I dont think this happens when lifted. Normally happens when mouse is not moved manually for sometime - like a mouse screensaver !But it goes only in 2 directions - left or diagonally left (North-West). Mouse pointer just move left & right top corner automatically & open right click menu always . More over pointer will not allow you to close any open application . Virus scan done & no virus found .
