Installing Ram

Recommended Posts

I have a link to the mobo manual (adobe) Mobo Manual but it doesn't help me, what with my missing the geek gene :P

Ok, I have 1 stick of 1gig and 2 sticks of 512 - all 3 are matching. What I need to know is if I have to place the sticks in any particular order? The 4 slots on the board are colour coded, 2 blue and 2 yellow.

Also, should I dump the 1 gig and use just the 2 512's in dual channel? How do I use the 3 sticks to get the best performance?

I thank you :)

Hi Sir T Fireball. According to this(taken from your manual)...

ram8nt.jpg

you could run into problems if you use 3 sticks.

If I were in your situation I would use the 2 512MB sticks in dual channel mode as you'll most likely find that the memory timings on your 512MB modules are tighter(faster)than the 1GB stick.

HTH, dagwoood.

You could use all three modules ... i don't think you will have duall-chanell though .. But i dont see any harm in this ...

It is up to you to decide wich is more important :

1 GB Ram in dual-channel

or

2 GB Ram no D-C...

Personally i would go for 2 GB of RAM .. ;)

And may be later on buy another 1 GB stick :) ... And dual-channel then :) ...
