Connecting internet through another one ?

hi all,

let's assume i've 2 or more computers home or at work.

i want to use one as the terminal server and let others to connect internet through the terminal one.

how can i achieve this ?

which operating system do i have to install to the terminal comp ? xp pro or 2003 server or what ?

i want to do this because i dont want other computers to use some programs like msn, yahoo or emule.

am i able to restrict such programs on terminal computer so that others connected to internet through this not able to use those programs ?

Terminal Server? Do you mean Terminal Services (RDP)? In which case, others would still be able to connect to the machine running Terminal Services and access the internet on it. If you wish to block them programs, it's probably best to find out which ports they use and block them on your router/firewall (If you have them).

As for the operating system, I know that 2k3 has terminal services as standard, don't think that xp pro has, it only has the client. Consider using another Remote desktop program, one that I use personally all the time and would recommend is RealVNC.

EDIT - Or just stop them being installed on the other pc's altogether :)

RDP on 2003 but you can still use just basic router and lock the msn emule and yahoo ports that is what I will do one more thing is you can create a group let say internet give it full right for internet access using GPO and put your username in it if you are using AD :P ( for home use :P ) and second group with restricted internet so any time when you will run as ( you ) you will have internet acces on any of this pc's without RDP which have got only 5 connection to a terminal at onec if you want more of them speak to Bill G. :P

But if you want to use it for home I advice router for 30-50 £ and good configuration on it the best what can be for home use up to 5 pc's if you use more Than think about 2003 server pro
