My computer may or may not have a virus. I was on another message board and someone recommended running MSCONFIG. Since I've done that, nothing on my computer is working right. It doesn't recognize that I have speakers plugged in to the computer. I have no internal sound. My speakers are working correctly. I get error messages nonstop. someone please help.

thanks

Hello, and welcome to the Windows Forum! :)

First, what did you change in msconfig? If you can tell us what you unchecked, we can tell you what is safe to put back.

If you have a virus or other malware infection, it is usually not enough to do some unchecking in msconfig - you'll need some more serious cleanup.

Do you have any firewall, antivirus, and/or antispyware installed? What do you have, and is it up-to-date? Have you recently ran a full system scan with any of these tools?

I just tried to rollback my system. I didn't uncheck anything. I do have all of those things installed, but they are now not working. I am not able to scan.

You did a System Restore from msconfig? Were you offered to restore the system to a certain point (with multiple choices)?

I have never used System Restore, but it is not usually known to break things.

I think the safest thing at this point is that you analyze your system with HiJackThis. Please read instructions on how to do that in this topic, then post your log file in this forum. One of the experts will analyze your log and advise you how to proceed.
