Recommended Posts

Hello, I have and easy question.....I have 2 OS installed on my machine XP Home and XP Pro... XP has expired and needs to be activated.....but i wish not to use Pro i want to use Home....how do i remove XP Pro with out removing XP Home? thank you...

Just reformat the partition that you have Pro installed on.

Just that easy..

Maybe you could try to install Ubuntu Linux on that ( now empty ) partition..

If you want to learn more go to the Ubuntu Forum.. ;)

Hello, and welcome to the Windows Forum!

You need to be a little bit more specific - how are the two Windows systems installed on your computer? On two different partitions, e.g. C: and D: ? If so, which one is on the C: drive?

The C: drive contains the boot.ini file, which is used for multibooting. If you format the C: partition, as the previous poster suggests, then you won't be able to boot at all.

Actually it doesn't matter witch OS contains the boot.ini. The bios only care about witch one is the active partition. It could be D: or Z: or whatever. Just remove that logical drive. You can reformat and partition when installing whatever your going to put on their next. I would suggest using a partitioning tool to do this because it offers so much more options and is very easy to use.

Well , Actually if there is two operating systems installed on the same hard drive then it dosen't matter to the B.I.O.S wich one is active ..

Besides if he does want to install ubuntu linux then the GRUB Bootloader will need to be installed too, Thus making the windows "NTLdr.exe" inactive.. It's gotta be that way..!

Actually, They both will.. ;)

It depends which loader is in the mbr. It doesn't have to be grub, it could be ntldr. Grub will make the windows loader inactive if you choose so.

No i'm preaty sure that grub has to be in the M.B.R. .....It has to be the one that boots wichever system..Dual boot... ;)
