Robby Posted June 6, 2006 Report Share Posted June 6, 2006 I have spent all of last night and this morning searching and trying to figure this out. Every time I start windows, I get to the part where it has the pretty blue screen that says "Welcome", and I get this error: "winlogon.exe" instruction at 0x00000000 referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be written. I was having problems with the video card before it happened, so I'm thinking it might be that. The only thing I've been changing/working on lately was trying to get the drivers to work. I had to disable agp440.sys to be able to start in safe mode, but unfortunately I got the same error. I also used my XP CD and used the recovery console to fix it. (That's how I disabled agp440.sys) I did a chkdsk c: /R and it said it found a few errors and fixed them, but after rebooting, I got the same error. I have linux on another hard drive and I ruled out the netsky virus because I don't have a winlogon.exe in the /WINDOWS folder. Of course I might still be wrong. If anyone could help me out, I would really appreciate it! It's just hard to fix it when I can't get into windows. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Just let it do it's thing.. Anything missing from the windows system will be replaced.. :lol: I had to disable agp440.sysWHY...???? What does that do?Well you've got a graphics chip on your motherboard wich has it's own drivers in order to make it work.When you add an add-in Graphics Card you have to uninstall the onboard chips drivers (Before installing the new card), Otherwise... It causes big problems, And i know that first hand.. ;) I disabled agp440.sys because when loading, it would always hang there.Well i'm kinda curious why you did that, Sounds like a more serious problem ( maybe ), and should have been resolved differantly.. As in something else not installed correctly.. I heard that that particular virus affected winlogon.exe. The worm names itself winlogon.exe and places itself in the WINDOWS\ directory.Yea, Probably Winnt/System32 , Thats where windows usually looks for things.. I also tried all of the other options in the Safe Mode menu!I'll try the chipset driver as well when I get home, because I never knew about that.HUH, Thats wierdThe only other thing i can think of then is to boot up from your disk and use the "R" option at the prompt to repair your system..But that basicaly reformattes the whole hard drive and you lose everything...
