let me explain I had a 650 athlon and a ATI rage 32mb. I upgraded to a 1.3 Duron started to play my games (QA3) and low and behold what a difference I could see lights details and the game ran quicker all things I didn't really expect( I may well be a idiot)

Now a mate of mine has got 2 idetical machines 1 for him 1 for the kids they are both amd 2.0g ddr blah blah. One has a gforce64ddr card the other a TI4800, whats the difference I ask expecting to be well impressed well I can see the smoke and tyre tracks on C&C he replies.

So is he playing relly old games and not getting the full benifit or are we upgrading for the sake of it i.e. mines better than yours sydrome?

one of the things that really affects the performance of your graphics card is your processor. If you rput a whizz bang Geforce FX in a PII 166 it would make no difference, the processor would simply act as a bottleneck.

This explains your big performance increase.

Until games start making the most of direct x 9.0 we won't see much difference between a Geforce 4 and a Geforce FX but the further down the line we go the more difference we will se....

and further down the line a new series of cards will have entered the arena promising much more at a higher price. Circle of Life?

I'll probably wait a few years before splashing out on such things as

A) the price will come down

B) as you stated they will have games to take advantage of the cards by then
