I can download programs from internet (microsoft, yahoo, hotmail) and the first step is completed with the icon on the desktop. Then when I go to finish the installation the program starts but never appears on screen. It shows up intask manager processes running at 97% cpu but doesn't show up in applications in task manager. I can't even download virus scanning programs. What I would try first is to run an online scan for malware at http://www.ewido.net/en/onlinescan/ (runs on Internet Explorer only).There is of course the possibility that you cannot even run this scan (since it also needs to install a little something). In that case I would point you over to the HijackThis forum; read the instructions how to download and run HijackThis, then post the result log in a new post in that forum.
