misscj Posted October 9, 2006 Report Share Posted October 9, 2006 I bought a comp program from Russia this summer and I had to change the language settings so that I could read the setup directions, but when I went to change the settings back, it didn't work. Now, whenever I'm on a website with a western european font, I get é, Ô, and Æ instead of letters with accents (e aigue, etc.) The problem with that is that I work some in French (and also in Russian) and I really need the accented letters. Changing the langage preferences doesn't work and I think that I did something really wrong in the first place that messed up the code. Looking it up, it seems that Russian versions of Windows would have the same code replacement as I'm seeing now, but I've found nothing that suggests how to change it other than buying a whole new version of Windows Professional, and I cannot afford that!Does anyone know a quick fix? Was it a Windows (Language) setting, or was it an Internet Explorer setting?Next, can you give me an example of a website that doesn't display correctly? Basically it should always be the website (encoding) that directs the browser how to display encoded characters, and not a Windows setting.For instance, does this website http://fr.wikipedia.org/ display French text correctly?
