browse resources in different subnets

Hi,

I've found this situation with windows clients (let's say 12) shattered on different subnets, they all share the same workgroup.

I can ping the IP of a client living in different subnets, I guess that's good

But I can't see all of them in the workgroup list of PCs.

I've setted up a WINS server on a Windows 2000 Server. Now I can ping the name instead of the IP but still I can't see its name in the workgroup.

Does anybody know if I can have all the PC in the same Workgroup without setting up a PDC?

I think the router your using to separate the subnets is blocking the broadcasts. That would be why you can ping but not see the shares. The WINS server will give you just the name resolution allowing you to ping the names and resolve them. Can you install a hub or allow the broadcasts through?

Have you tried using the UNC path for each client? Maybe edit the LMhost file adding the name IP pair. I think MS recommend no more than 10 clients in a workgroup. And if you only have 12 clients why are you subnetting? A router blocks all broadcasts. the internet would full over in about 10 seconds otherwise.
