Paste-Enter conflict & accent problems

So I've got 2 problems:

1. This started happening recently: If I press enter, my clipboard is cleared. Happens for both enters, if I just copy some text and then press enter, it won't paste anything anymore. I'm baffled.

2. Probably a setting problem somewhere: I used to be able to press an accent (for example: ' ) and then a vowel. The accent would not appear untill I typed anything else. If I typed a vowel it would 'combine' and give me a vowel with an accent. I recently had a new install of windows, and now I need to press ctrl or something with the accent (still not entirely sure) before I can get it on top of the vowel. I want the old method back... Where can I change this?

Edit: Found problem 1 to be a firefox-only problem... If I press enter in firefox, my clipboard is cleared... very awkward.

I don't know what old method you were using, but if I hold down the 'alt' key and type 0233 (using the numbers pad)...it will give me é. Is this basically what you're after?

edit: here's an ASCII chart. the numbers are different than my chart, but it should work the same. :)

nope, I mean I just press just the ' key and then an e and it gives me é. If I press the ' then it waits for me to press another key (ie: doesn't print anything yet), and if I type a consonant it just shows up as 'n.

I think you're right...it has to do with your settings.

I found this for 'word', but it says you have to press ctrl first, as you explained above
