Ok so i am having a problem i wanted to do a reinstallation on my compaq presario 1200 with disk i got. It wasnt working at first (i am use to windows xp where i go into "F2" then with F6 i place "boot from disk" in first position in boot options then the reinstallation goes easy from there) but i am having a problem with Window ME...i put disk in and restart computer..what i get is a blue screen with this:

Compaq Recovery CD menu

1: Emergency diskette

2:User Backup

3:No user image found

4:factory restore

5:exit

(of course with a descriptions under each number of what that does like under "4: factory restore" it said "restores your computer to it's original factory condition")

...Now i try to press 4 because i wanna get it like it was before but nothing happens...infact nothing happens when i press any number except 5 --->and it exits to normal screen(well it ask me to remove all disk first then press a button to restart in normal mode). So what do i do..whats wrong..i just wanna reinstall everything..like erase it all and get back to a new condition which i have done many times on other versions of windows.(????????) Thanks.

Thats weird. Sometimes I press the num keys with out numlock on and get what your talking about except your 5 worked so its not something like that or your keyboard not working. What about tabbing through the menu, or trying the disc in Windows. If they don't work I would find the setup/executables on the disc or help files and using a boot disc try to install it. Just restart with boot disc and wait for a prompt and enter something like C:\setup.exe /factory. Don't really enter that, it probably won't work, it would have to be the real executable on the disc. This way you would be skipping the menu.
