zarroun Posted January 4, 2007 Report Share Posted January 4, 2007 Hey to everyone,I hope you guys can help me here. I've been looking like crazy to find a solution. Right, here's my problem:I wanted to try a IP Masking software to be more secure. So I got Hide IP. Didn't like how it performed, and I uninstalled it. Now the only way out to the Internet is through Internet Explorer. Nothing else works. I usually use Firefox, and it keeps telling me it can't connect to the server. To check where the problem might be, I installed Opera, but can't connect either. My mail client doesn't connect, FTP client wont even start up anymore... Now I'm guessing that there is a global proxy setting or something that got changed when I installed Hide IP that didn't get fixed. I tried re-installing and un-installing it again. I looked at the Windows host file and I only have 127.0.0.1 in there. I tried the WinSockFix as well. No change at all. Can somebody help me please?!?! cozofdeath Posted January 5, 2007 Report Share Posted January 5, 2007 The only thing I think it changes is the proxy that each browser uses. There is nothing global, if there was the program would have to be running. Open Firefox, Tools, Options, Advanced, Network Tab, click the Settings button and make sure Direct connection to internet is checked. Then I would check explorer just to be safe because it could still be using a proxy if you used it with HideIP. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I also checked IE and it is set to "Automatically detect settings". I tried to see what would happen if I uncheck it, and it still works. I checked Opera as well, and no proxy settings selected. What's weird is that every program that connects outside seems to be affected, even my FTP and mail client Trillian is now telling me that I need at least WinSock 2.0. Did the WinSock reset with "netsh winsock reset", restarted, and it didn't fix it. The Registry did not show any Hide IP left overs. I'm at a loss here.Thanks for the suggestions though. Dreamweaver is telling me that the TCP/IP Protocol is not installed properly. Tried resetting with "netsh int ip reset", but still no changes so far. I'll try a system restore. The only other thing I can think of is a service or malware but if it started when you installed hideip it has to be a service. Can you post a list of your services? Sorry it took me so long to post my son made a giant mess. Anyways regarding the whole winsock thing you may want to try lspfix to find exactly what file could be causing this. After reseting your whole tcp/ip stack, winsockfix and everything else, I couldn't believe it was still doing that. Was the file a hide-ip leftover? When I hit fix, it told me nothing had to be fixed. Yet it still worked. Guess it will be an unresolved mystery. It just does not make sense why IE would work and everything else would not.Well, thanks again for the help. I really needed to upload some files to the server. Now I can.
