windows xp welcome screen wont load

i had some antivirus software,i didnt like it so i deleted it and installed CA security centre.everything went fine and i restarted and good.Now i installed IE 7 which i already tried before but didnt work,so i just thought to try it once more.ok now i installed IE 7 and it asked me to restart and i did.now the problem is that it restarts and works fine until the Welcome Screen but when i click the user,it keeps on loading and loading,it doesnt go further.any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hard to tell what the cause of your problem is; it could be a partially uninstalled antivirus software - some vendors have the habit to leave some pieces behind, which does not go well with other antivirus softwares.

What I would try first in your case is to boot into the last known good configuration; see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307852 on details. When the computer starts, repeatedly tap F8 until you see the boot menu that lets you boot into Safe Mode, and also into Last Known Good.

Let us know how it goes; we may have more if the above fails.
