XP icon and Administrator problems

Recommended Posts

I recently added a user account to my computer running Windows XP Pro and i noticed that a few applications (Excel from Office 2003 for example) appear to not be installed on the computer under the new user account, which by the way has administrative privileges. i associated the program with the [excel] files but the icons do not appear for the shortcuts... It opens fine [since i associated it] but i am used to being able to look at an icon to see which application will handle it (i disabled the view of extensions). This has also happned to a few other applications... how do i get the applications I installed on the Administrator account to be shown as installed? Please help. Thanks in advance...

P.S. I am new to this forum and am not sure if i will be notified if there is a response to my post... so forgive me if i m not back for a day or two...

I would say that since the application was installed by the administrator you would need to just initiate them on the other users behalf. Shortcuts and things like that should generate automatically. Note that you may be prompt for the original source, if this was a network install make sure its connected to the network/domain.

Shortcuts can always be created anywhere, if you can find the original path.

No worries, I just subscribed myself... I am a advanced user, and IT Pro but no expert and I have a handfull of experiences. Im not here to criticize or laugh at someone. Forums are created for sharing resources, and information.
