ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Welcome to the Windows Forum. Please be precise when you describe your problem, otherwise nobody will be able to help you. What is the exact error message you get when you try to start Windows? What is the exact error message you get when you try to repair Windows?Anyway, before reinstalling/repairing Windows I would try to boot into the Last Known Good Configuration (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307852); that is a lot easier than a Windows reinstall/repair. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Next thing to try is a system restore (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304449/). However, if you cannot boot into Safe Mode, then things are a bit more complicated. Can you try and obtain or make a Windows XP startup disk, then boot into it to perform the system restore? (Google has hundreds of references regarding Windows XP startup or boot disk.)
Spaz
Another option you have if you just need to recover data from the drive before formatting, or restoring is connecting the hard drive to a functional computer running an operating system. Go into computer management and make sure the disk is visible. If it so, you can convert it to a dynamic disk >assign it a drive letter (one not in use) and retrieve data if possible. Note that some directories may be corrupt.Just a thought~
