Hi, I'm trying to backup my C drive over the network to a different computer that's on the LAN. In order to that I believe that I have to assign my C drive a user name and password. Currently the computer doesn't have any password to login or do certain things. So my questions is: in order for me to assign the C drive share a password, do I need to create an admin account on the computer that has a user name and password or can I just assign the C drive a user name and password without having to create a password protected account on the computer?

I do not believe you have to...

  1. Setup the network in the same workgroup.
  2. Share the folder
  3. go to the other computer
  4. setup the same workgroup for the other computer
  5. reboot both, in order to take effect
  6. go to "network places"
  7. select "show workgroup computers"
  8. copy what ever you like, with drag and drop.

hope it helps...
