XP SP1 install

Hey everyone :)

So heres the deal. I have a compax nx9010 labtop; havent used it in about a year (spyware issues.) It would not boot up so I tried a system repair with sp1 cd, last know good config, a boot up in safe mode etc. wouldn't work. So I decided to do a clean install deleting my partitions and creating a fresh one. However when my system tries to format the partition it's pretty much a no go. I say "pretty much" because it's been trying to format for about 1 hr now and it's at 2% (process is only supposed to take 20-30 minutes according to microsoft.) I tried creating the partition as both a NTFS and FAT file, (gave up after about 2.5 hrs formatting as NTFS at 2%, currently at 2% with the FAT.) I highly doubt my cd is damaged since I recently installed sp1 on another system with no problems. I think my proccessor is fried. Any thoughts?

if your processor is fried, it should either result in a VERY slow computer, running at less then 1% at normal speed... OR a computer randomly rebooting.

So that isn't the case here...

Have you tried to delete all partion, and making them into one large partion?

Well, that sounds like good news, I'd much rather it be a software issue opposed to hardware. But to inform you a bit better on my current situation, when I was last using my computer about a year back, I noticed overtime it got signficantly slower, to the point where it was unbearable. 20-25 minutes just to boot up. I don't know what 1% proccesor speed runs like, but you can judge that for yourself.
