Troubleshooting Performance Monitor Counters

I need some help and I have looked everywhere with no success.

I have an Exchange Server where objects in Performance Monitor display as numbers only. This makes performing performance monitoring impossible as I have no idea what objects/counters these numbers represent.

Using information I found in Microsoft KB article 152513 I was able to determine that the "Performance Registry Key" was missing the "009" subkey. I restored this data and I now have the basic performance counters.

However, many of the Services that have registered performance counter DLLs still only show their objects/counters as numbers.

If I run Extensible Performance Counter List (Exctrlst.exe) from the Windows 2000 Resource Kit - all of the Performance Coounters are displayed and are enabled.

I'm really at my wits end - I've never seen this before and I can't find any information on troubleshooting this issue.

I am not an Exchange Server specialist, and I'm not sure if we have any here.

If you can't find your answer here, have you tried the microsoft.public.exchange.* newsgroups, e.g. news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.exchange.misc or news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.exchange.tools ?
