Problem with windows explorer

Similar to another post sometime when I'm using my computer I can't click on the items on my taskbar and then this happens

after that my taskbar dissapears and sometimes never comes back (I fix that by opening up task manager and launching c:\windows\explorer.exec:\windows\explorer.exe)

sometimes it happens every couple seconds and it's realy annoying. If this information if of any use I have windows xp service pack 2 but am using a windows vista skin.

The scan says I'm clean but I'm getting that problem right now as I type this :(

Assuming you are using XP - goto control panel - system - advanced (tab) - performance (button) - Data Execution Prevention

Check that the top option is enabled (turn on dep for essential ...etc)

This is a bit odd, because DEP should stop anything interfering with explorer, not stop explorer.

Try here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=875351 - basically you need to add explorer to the exceptions list - though you may only want to do it long enough to find out what is causing it cos explorer is a file that is supposed to be protected (if you do this you will need to check the "turn on DEP for all files except the ones i specify", then add explorer.exe to the list)
