jwleonhart Posted November 13, 2007 Report Share Posted November 13, 2007 Alright... i'll start off with my specs before anything, here they are below:Athlon 64 300+ o/c to 2.75GHz1GB DDR400 Ram1x WD Raptor 73GB 10,000RPM2x WD 120GB 7,200RPMNvidia Gefroce 6600GTAsus A8N-SLI motherboardSound Blaster X-FiOEM Windows XP Pro w/SP2Alright so here is my problem. I've freshly loaded windows onto my computer. I get all the updates, and load all the newest drivers (or best) drivers for everything. The system was up and running for 3 days then for no reason everything started going haywire. Anything in media player would skip and go crazy and it would crash. Any FLV files wouldn't play (youtube videos). Firefox and IE would work for a little bit then they would no longer be able to get internet. But bit torrent would still run and download with no problem. It's a real copy of XP from Microsoft. When I tried calling microsoft though they said since I bought an OEM copy that I was no entitled to any support unless I paid like $60 or $70. If anyone could shine some light on this issue? The first install I was using a firewall called Nvidia ActiveArmor and their Firewall program. I think that might have been the problem at first, but after un-installing the program, everything still ran all haywire. No viruses or spyware detected either, used AVG and Ad-Aware. That shouldn't do any harm.Have you also applied the optional updates from Microsoft Update?Have you defragged your main partition or HD after the Windows install? Nothing in result. I just don't understand the problem.Also how many SVCHost.exe should be running in the task manager, because I have 5. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb Posted November 13, 2007 Report Share Posted November 13, 2007 The updates are applied from microsoft, every optional update is also included except ones that aren't needed.But are they from MicrosoftUpdate (http://www.update.microsoft.com/), or just downloaded patches and hotfixes?You can have multiple instances of svchost running, each taking care of some group of processes. Don't cancel these processes. If you see high CPU usage on one of them, you can use the tasklist /svc command to see what's using it.
