Mail rejected by Windows Live Hotmail

Hello everyone,

I use Gmail for all of my email communication. Here's an error I just started getting yesterday after trying to reach an account that I had no prior problems reaching (keep in mind that I do not spam):

Technical details of permanent failure:

PERM_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 12): 550 SC-001 Mail rejected by Windows Live Hotmail for policy reasons. Reasons for rejection may be related to content with spam-like characteristics or IP/domain reputation problems. If you are not an email/network admin please contact your E-mail/Internet Service Provider for help. Email/network admins, please visit http://postmaster.live.com for email delivery information and support

Any suggestions on how to get this problem fixed? Thanks in advance.

Most likely, Hotmail is rejecting messages from certain Gmail IP addresses, as they were identified as spam sources.

The best thing you can do is try to resend the message, in the hope that a different mail server (with a different IP address) is used.

I was able to reach him moments later with an alternate Gmail account of mine -- from the same computer. What do you think the issue is? I certainly hope I don't have to change my main email address in order to reach hotmail accounts.

It has nothing to do with your computer or your Gmail email address. It is just some of the gmail mail server IP addresses that are rejected.

As long as you use Gmail addresses, it may happen again. However, thankfully Hotmail is sending you a bounce, so you can take action.
