stp
Hi, just wondering if anyone can help me out. Have a toshiba laptop running vista, have been connected to internet using modem with no problems for months, but for the past 2 days i couldnt connect to internet, phoned virgin customer support, he did all the tests and it came back that it was my laptop that is the problem, he said it was the DHCP that was not working and to take it back to pc world to get it fixed. Have reinstalled vista from scratch with no joy. Anyone had any experience of this and if I can fix it my self?? Also is DHCP a file in vista or is it hardware?? excuse my lack of knowledge. ps. the virgin modem connects my other comp to the net no problem!Cheers stp
AdamB
DHCP is the method your Modem/Router uses to give out an IP address. Is this broadband? I Presume so.Are you connected via USB or Network Lead?It could be a number of things...Do you have a friend with a laptop - if so ask them to plugin to it and see if they can connect to the internet. If they can then its a prob with your laptop, maybe an update or something has upset your driver? If they cant try resetting the modem/router back to factory settings. This should be in your manual...
