Corrupt HDD

Hi, all

I have a strange problem, I have a HDD that works without problem in Windows Vista 32bit but is completely corrupted in Windows XP pro. It isn't even accessible in WinXP, winxp just shows a "hdd corrupted" message.

Did a chkdsk in vista and found no problems, but I don't want to do a chkdsk in winxp to avoid completely corrupting it also in Vista.

I don't have another hdd bid enough to just copy the files in vista format the hdd and copy them back, already thought about that

Can it be that vista uses another mft than winxp an thus it works in vista.

I hoped there would be some cmd to repair the mft in winxp (if the problem is the mft)

Read on wikipedia that vista uses ntfs 5.x and winxp uses 3.1, perhaps because of the newer version vista can read the hdd and winxp can't

Anyone know what to do

Where did you read that? I can only find http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTFS, which states that both XP and Vista use NTFS 3.1, so they should be compatible.

It was on german wikipedia http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_File_Table#NTFS_5.x

Interesting - why the difference between the English and German Wiki...?
