There are thousands of applications out there that run on Windows, and each has its own file type. If you send a PDF file, you will need Adobe Reader or something that can display PDF files. Same for MOV files; it will need QuickTime or another application that can run it. etc. etc.I can guarantee you that Microsoft would be very happy to supply all these tools for free, and drive all their nasty competitors out of business! But fortunately there are plenty of anti-monopoly laws all over the world, and so we will have to deal with all these competing applications. It may be boring for the end users, but it is what keeps innovation alive. Otherwise we would still be with Windows 3.1 or worse... Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
colrich Posted February 4, 2008 Author Report Share Posted February 4, 2008 Well Pat, I can't think who could accuse ms of monopolistic practices if they ugraded wordpad to save its page set up with documents, or provided wordreader ready loaded as part of Vista. I still think it's all to do with selling Word, no doubt a highly lucrative sideline. As for the anti monopoly laws, they don't seem to have stood in microsoft's way in a general sense too much hitherto!.
