startup programs issue.....

hi,

When I started up my pc, 3 of my startup programs didn't load: avg control center, msn messenger, and Creative audio control center.

if I try to load messenger from the programs menu, it won't load, and the same for the 2 others as well.... messenger WILL load if I go into the file in windows explorer.

also, sometimes when I try to load windows media player, it'll open and close IMMEDIATELY (about .5 seconds)

virus and spyware scanners didn't pick up anything significant.....

what can I do??

Welcome to the Windows Forum.

Something wrong with the shortcuts in the Startup and Start menus?

Check Event Viewer for any entries at the time of the failure.

thanks (nice to see a friendly forum) :)

it could be... reinstalling avg and messenger fixed the problem for those 2 programs... I don't know how to reinstall the other one.

Why would this have happened though?

"The other one"... being the 'Creative audio control center'? Can you find this entry in Add/Remove Programs? If so, can you try a repair install (Change | Repair)?

How this can happen - I don't know. What is your file system - NTFS or FAT? FAT files systems can easily corrupt files; NTFS is much more stable.

also, sometimes when I try to load windows media player, it'll open and close IMMEDIATELY (about .5 seconds)

Can you check the Event Viewer for information when this happens? What version of Media Player do you have?
