Guest ironman556 Posted January 13, 2003 Report Share Posted January 13, 2003 Hi, I got Lord Of The Rings: Fellowship Of The Ring for Christmas. My Graphics card couldn't support it, so it prompted me to buy a new one. I've installed my new Albatron GF4 Ti4200, installed LOTR game, and it couldn't find a 3D Accelerator. I've not got the drivers from the Albatron site and have installed them. I can now get the game to the menu's and click start new game, at which point it comes up loading, finishes loading, the screen goes black & computer freezes. All other games run perfectly (and with great graphics :-D) The only things that I can think of is sound drivers out of date, but would that make it crash? I'd like to leave the sound drivers 'til later if possible as I've had installation problems before with the sound card. (Think that was a conflict with the old ATI Rage Fury Pro though). And that I'm running a PIII 500, when the minimum for the game is 600MHz, but I'm not sure that this could be the problem either. Any other ideas? Thanks. UT2003 says that it requires a minimum processor of Pent III or AMD Athlon 733Mhz or greather / Pent 4 or AMD 1.0GHz or greater??? - I know these processors will struggle to run this game even though they are the "minimum specification". Guest ironman556 Posted January 14, 2003 Report Share Posted January 14, 2003 I've had UT2003 running (jerkily) on my old card on the same system, which is what makes think (probably hope would be a better word) that it's not the processor. I've also had Serious Sam, which was bundled with the card, crash twice on me, once with a totally black screen and once totally white... The second time I couldn't turn my PC off from the power button. Any ideas on that? Is it likely there's somthing not uninstalled correctly from my last graphics card? I had some error messages in Control Panel when loading it, which I've sorted with TweakUI. They are used for driver updates, but I think they will also apply to the removal of ATI if you change cards. Guest ironman556 Posted January 20, 2003 Report Share Posted January 20, 2003 I've not managed to get it running :-(. I've also found that Messiah crashes with ddhelp.exe error. I've tried removing everything related to my ATI card, but still nothing. I've also downloaded DirectX Buster, removes 8.1 and reinstalled it from the LOTR cd, but still no luck.Am I right in thinking this is a DirectX problem? I believe it's a small stub application whose job is to monitor any DirectX fullscreen applications which are running; if they crash it restores the normal screen display. Guest ironman556 Posted January 20, 2003 Report Share Posted January 20, 2003 Thanks I've tried NVidia and have done everything apart from reassigning IRQ's and updating the motherboard drivers/bios.How should I use Diagnostic setup? I know I can set to boot up in diagnostic mode in msconfig, but I've never had to, so am not sure how to use it. I've still got some files that come up in C:\Windows\System when I search ATI*.* The uninstallation guide suggests I should have 4/5 files, I have 29! Should I be able to safely delete all of these as long as ATI Technologies is written in the file or properties?Thanks again, Ironman.PS.
