NIC Causes monitor to lose signal!?

Recommended Posts

A recent issue has popped up with my desktop when I have cause to reboot.

If the ethernet cable is connected to the NIC, or the modem is on, windows tries to boot then seems to stop before the login screen. I tried replacing the NIC (which is the original onboard hardware) but the PCI card made no difference. If the cable was connected, the signal was lost on reboot.

If I reboot the machine, then turn on the modem, I am able to connect- as I am now. But as soon as Windows does an update that requires a restart, I will be back in the same boat.

Is there some suggestion as to what may be causing this?
