Audio Distortion On DVD Playback (Vista Ultimate)

Hi all - when I wiped my HDD with Vista Ultimate, everything was running fine and as some (if not all) of you know, Vista Ultimate comes with native DVD Decoding straight out of the box which means that you can play DVDs as soon as you startup - something that was not possible on XP. I digress...

I was able to play DVDs, no problem, a while ago and now I can't! Whenever I go to play the DVD (either in Windows Media Player 11 or within Media Center) the picture quality is fine, but the audio is not. It sounds like digital distortion and I can't hear any of the dialogue in the film. My Audio meters are WAY up in the air and it also changes my M-Audio sound card control panel setting from a sample rate of 44100Hz to 48000Hz.

My computer's spec is as follows:

Intel Q6600 2.4Ghz Core 2 Quad Processer

1TB HDD (2x 250GB in RAID 0 and 1x 500GB)

4GB RAM

2x DVD Drives (1x +/- DL RW and 1x ROM)

M-Audio Delta Audiophile 2496 Sound Card with latest driver

Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 x86 (32bit) (completely up to date)

I already thought of the codecs being in conflict with another DVD Player or another peice of software so I removed RealPlayer (which changed nothing), I re-installed AC3 Filter (which did nothing), I then tweaked with as many settings as possible within Ac3 Filter (did nothing), I removed QuickTime (did nothing) and all I have left in terms of video codecs/software is Avid Xpress Pro, DVD Fab Platinum and two video converters (magic video converter and prism).

Oh, and I have also tried both DVD drives!

Any help on how to fix this bloody problem will be greatly appreciated!
