force mount HD from command line?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am having to use a linux computer to mount some ntfs drives that won't mount in windows. I want to back up all the files on them. I have done that successfully using linux force commands but want to know if I can do the same from command line or through disk management console in windows. I remember using disk management to format a drive before so it would mount but need a force command so I can mount and back up files before format.

Thanks

you can try this after you are root in the terminal....

ntfsfix /dev/sda1(2 or 5)

or

ntfsfix /dev/hda1(2,or 5)

however, if that doesnt work then try this:

 mount -t ntfs /dev/sda1 /mnt

but, instead of that one try with your hard drive's number.
