ramon82 Posted July 25, 2008 Report Share Posted July 25, 2008 My users have files hosted on a windows 2000 server. files are mix of xls and doc files aloong with others. problem is that they cannot delete some files or move them, its saying that they are in use and there is a sharing violation.....problem is that no one else is using the file!! in fact the NTFS permissions are assigned only to the user. Problem is experienced to more than one user and I restarted server but problem persisted...Any help? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I assume you've checked the permissions and lock on the server side. On my previous employer's network this happened occasionally and the admins had to unlock the file globally. On my previous employer's network this happened occasionally and the admins had to unlock the file globally.no i check myself from open files in computer management...this is so strange!! a single user using these files and still it gives sharing violation. i also tried the program suggested above by Snec but .TMP files are still being generated, some files still cannot be deleted !!!what exactly is the 'lock' thing about you suggested ?
