Sound Fading

Hi,

I use my PC for Voip calls, and I have skype and google talk both installed as well as MSN messenger, although don't use messenger very often. I use winamp for playing media, though the PC has Windows Media Player 9 Installed.

Anyone who uses skype, in the lastest versions if you are playing music, and someone on the other side of the call speaks it reduces the volume of the music or other sounds, which is fine. Google Talk does not do this I know that it does not.

However recently it seems that it is also doing this. I know for a fact that it does not have this feature in it. I also had SRS audio installed when this appeared.

The setup of programs I have described I have had for months but this has all happened after a few changes.

Basically I use a custom skin for Winamp, which uses classic pro, everything was normal, no fading, SRS soundbox was installed. Then there was an update for the classic pro element and I decided to update that. Upon updating, it caused a bug to emerge, whenever both Winamp on Google talk were runnning side by side, Google talk would knock the CPU usage to full. I tried removing the classic pro and winamp and doing a reinstall but still no luck. A few days later Winamp and Google Talk seemed to be fine again, although I had done nothing to solve the problem, just report it. This is when the fader appeared.

Now I what I need to know is what/how this fader is working, is it some sort of driver? Audio codec?. Although I have little use for it I do know others that could benifit from it, but I have no idea how it come to be and work.

Are there any goods tools that I could use for my investigation, and exactly what sort of things I need to be looking for. Also if anyone knows of any third party program that reduces music volume when another program has sound output would be grateful. This is a great tool, but I need to reinstall my PC, and I don't want to unless I know how I would get this 'thing' back after the reinstall.
