private_meta Posted September 2, 2008 Report Share Posted September 2, 2008 Hi,I just updated my parents Windows XP Professional installation from Service Pack 2 to Service Pack 3.The Computer was activated successfully for years, without any problem, but after the Installation of the service pack, it required a new activation of the system.This Activation was not possible, the activation assistant freezes as soon as it is started, so the WGA Notifier starts to come up, complaining that the system is not activated.I tried to uninstall Service Pack 3 again, but that did not help the cause. Does anyone have an idea what I can do to fix this problem? I would like to avoid reinstalling my parents system.cheers,metaP.S. When installing the service pack i made the mistake not to deactivate the virus scan and other protection software, but I didn't get any warning message from them. private_meta Posted September 3, 2008 Author Report Share Posted September 3, 2008 OK, let's see.It is a genuine version, it was not cracked or anything. It was genuine before, the WGA tool for Internet Explorer, when fetching updates, also certifies it as Genuine.I try to use the internet activation, but I can't even decide between online and phone activation, because the activation window freezes before I get to that choice.Going back to a previous restore point did help to reactivate Windows, more or less. After that I tried to either deactivate or uninstall those memory resident safety programs for a short time and try to install SP3 again. It was again a failure, the activation freezes.
