Mandatory Profile

Hi,

I'm working on a windows network and am having an issue with a mandatory profile. We have just bought a room of new Dell Optiplex Pc's Running xp. We store the profiles locally on the PC's to minimize network traffic as the network is large. I will explain how I have created the profile:

1. Created a new local user on 1 new dell pc and logged in as this user.

2. Edited the gui (took unnecessary links of start menu, and hid bottom right taskbar icons, etc).

3. Logged off and logged on as a domain admin.

4. In docs and settings, re named the new profile to 'Default User' and changed the name of the original default user profile.

5. Went into the new default user profile and changed ntuser.dat to ntuser.man.

6. (Students profile paths = C:\documents and settings\default user\) Logged in as a student and a message appears saying something like 'windows cannot load your roaming profile because the server could not be contacted, you will be logged in with a temp profile'.

And that's me pretty confused when its always been ok for other PC's. Any ideas/help/or telling me where Ive gone wrong is much appreciated.

Thanks.
