Win16 Subsystem and Protected Mode

Recommended Posts

When trying to install a program, I get this error that says:

"The Win16 Subsystem was unable to enter Protected Mode, DOSX.EXE must be in your AUTOEXEC.NT and present in your PATH."

I have looked around the forums and found some good info, but nothing I can put together concisely enough to fix my problem and be able to install the program.

Can anyone help with this?

Much thanks!

Does that happen with any kind of install, or just some particular (16-bit) application? Did you try install it under compatibility mode? Do you have a AUTOEXEC.NT file (%WINDIR%\system32), and if so, what is its content? Do you have a CONFIG.NT file? Do you have a dosx.exe file?
