gopher Posted October 15, 2008 Report Share Posted October 15, 2008 Hi, Here's the deal. We have two offices: one in France and another in Japan. When several users from Canada came to our Japan office two weeks ago and logged on to a shared XP computer, since then it keeps booting up in French and takes at least 15 minutes to see the log on screen. It seems like the PC is trying to search for a DC in France, not the one in Japan. I have dealt with Regional settings to switch back to English (English is the default language in Japan Office) but to no avail. When I log on I see everything in English but during the shutdown/startup it shows in French. In addition to the regional settings, I have tried "gpupdate /force" and also disjoined/rejoined the domain on the PC but still the same thing. I used RSoP to see the difference in Group Policies with any other PCs working normally but could not see anything different. This problem happens only on this PC. It must did something to the registry when those French users logged on. I wonder if anyone can give me some clue on this issue... Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The problem is, when I logged on the desktop appears in English but for whatever the reason when I right-click on something the menu SOMETIMES appears in French. Also, during the startup and shutdown messages become French as well. Let's say if I log off I see the message "Logging off..." and "Saving your settings" in English but after that it turns French! In addition to that, the PC takes 15 minutes to finally display the logon screen and looks frozen when it says "Applying policy... " (probably it's saying so in French) as though it's trying to reach the DC in France, not the one in Japan. I noticed there's one more PC having the same problem and all this started happen, as I already said, after several French speakers logged on to the computers..... :( BTW I don't live in Tokyo. Maybe you should ask the people who changed the settings, what exactly they have changed?Regarding the long startup, check out Startup Inspector. Run it, then click on the 'Consult' button to get info on all startup items.And yes, your IP address shows you in the middle of Tokyo. Isn't that also a little bit weird...? gopher Posted October 23, 2008 Author Report Share Posted October 23, 2008 After all investigation we conlude that the only thing to stop this is to uninstall the French MUI. Strangely, after uninstalling the PC starts up normally as well. I reinstalled the MUI to see if the problem is fixed. Not that easy, the problem came back alive and the PC again tries to search for the servers in Montreal during the bootup hence taking 15 minutes to finally show the log on screen. We decided to completely get rid of the MUI as nobody really needs French in Japan unless we have some guest from France. I guess the problem was caused in a mixture of Group Policy and logon script which eventually messed up the registry of the PC when those French users logged on.
