Server 2008 folder permissions

Hey,

I have recently set up a file server with server 08. I have partitioned it and structured the folders as follows:

Students > year groups > individual folders

students is shared, then there are 5 year folders unshared, then the students folders inside with full permissions to their folder as created automatically through active directory. Other than that I haven't really altered any permissions.

The problem is sometimes when a student logs in, instead of bringing through their folder, it brings through all the year group folders, so the student has access to every other students files.

Help please? I'm presuming this is a permissions issue. Also the folders are brought through in active directory on the students profile and also group policy.
