mrbill
There are lots of posts about how to add an item to a context menu forfile types, or for files in general. I have a generic command I added to my exploere context menu via the usual registery thingadd[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shell\<my menu name>\command]@="c:<bla bla shell command here> "Now, this works just fine in "normal" document windows, but vista spuriously changes my folder "types" to picture foldersand music folders and so on. Since those folders are NOT picture or music folders its pretty annoying to not have my settings for folder left alone. So part b of this question, does anyone know how to make vista stopspecializing its folders for you? (or against you?)Back to topic,In windoes explorer, if i right click any old folder name inside a folder, sure enough, the menupops up with Explore Open <my menu item> <menu continues>but only in "normal" document type folders. However, if Vista in its IW (infinite wisdom), has spuriouslydecided my containing folder is now really a music folder (even though5 minutes ago i explicitly set the folder type back to document)then, <my menu item> is listed FIRST, making it the defaultLEFT click action as well.Right click on the sub folder name now shows <my menu item> -- listed first and In BOLD showing its the default menu item Explore Open <menu continues>So question number 1), how can I set the menu position or order of <my menu item>so that it is not randomly on the top (aka default) of the context menu?I like my new context command, but I also like being able to double click my folders to open them, which this random (in the sense vista silently randomizes folder types) behavior prevents. Now, after vista silently mangles the folder type, I double click a sub folderand <my menu item> runs, instead of opening the folder. And question part 3rd, if someone can tell me how to turn OFF music and picture foldernonsense altogether so i ONLY have document type folders, that would be very very cool too.I have set the setting in folder options to treat all folders the same and not specialize anything, and "set all folders to be like this on", set this folder and all subfolders to "documenttype" dozens of times, and yet it keeps changing, as i said apparently at random.I do not in fact have music in any of the folders it decides to make music folders.I often wonder if there were programmers out there who hated microsoft so badly theygot jobs at microsoft and deliberatly hosed windows vista? :=)Wisdom welcome.
